Multi-lateral thinking. I don’t know if this is a psychological condition or not. But I do know, that, in contrast with my husband, who is more of a linear thinker, I think about many things at one time.
Aside from going to the movies to enjoy myself, I go to the movies to think about my problems. And I come away, having solved them all, made lists mentally and organized the week. And followed the plot at the same time. It’s relaxing really to know that all is handled in my life.
My husband, on the other hand, can watch the most boring movie and pay attention to every detail all the way through.
The only time this movie-going organization gets sticky and I can’t hold onto the plot of the movie, is when there are a lot of facts going on. My brain is incapable, I guess, of holding onto so many layers.
Then I turn to my husband and say, “What just happened?” Needless to say, he gets irritated.
Ha ha, I do that all the time Hollis – I never concentrate on a movie or even a TV serial. We’re Homeland addicts at the moment and I don’t really have a clue what’s going on.

My Lovely Daughter #2 used to do this all the time in the cinema – I think she just didn’t want to miss a moment or nuance of it. Maybe you can use that excuse?

Synecdoche, New York with Phillip Seymour Hoffman would drive you crazy. Its a nuts movie anyway. But talk about layers! There is so much going on in that movie. It was like the film version of a random stream of consciousness. I like this piece Hollis. Its like there are three different layers that go well together visually but are logically incoherent. The background looks like a scene from the Rocky Mountains, the middle layer from somewhere in Arizona/New Mexico, and the front looks like a lush flower garden. But they compliment each other in a strange and appealing way. Nice!

Thank you? It is kind of weird! I never saw that movie, Synecdoche. One hard one to space out on, is “Memento.” I think my brain had a work out that day. And no problems were solved. Maybe Synecdoche, New York is the same type of thing. Thanks as always for your enjoyable and insightful comments.
