People like different kinds of pies. And everyone has a favorite. My husband can assess your personality by what kind of pie you like. This method, he came up with in Junior High School and he calls it “Pie o logy.” I’ll start with Apple: You are a fairly basic, conservative person. However, if you are specific about the type of apples you like in your Apple Pie, such as Granny Smith or Macintosh, in any way specific, you have a secret side to you. Like you have a crush on Matt Lauer. Whose favorite pie, I am sure, is Apple. Cherry: You are a Liberal sort of person. You like National Public Radio. And you follow the party line. If you prefer a deep crust on your Cherry Pie, you are not as Liberal as you think you are. LIke you might secretly have voted for John McCain, but you like to look poor and publicly put down anything Republican. Lemon Meringue: A fellow blogger loves this pie and announced he would celebrate his art opening with eating lots and lots of Lemon Meringue Pie. What does this mean? My husband says if you like this kind of pie, you are a little acerbic, droll and witty. Not necessarily political. Judging from what I know about my internet friend, I would say this is correct. A few more. Banana Cream Pie: Your jokes fall flat. And there is a hint of exploration in the things you do. You go off the beaten path, a little. Like you might wear a safari congo hat. (An example of a joke falling flat!) Sweet Potato Pie is a bear hugging type person. And Key Lime, you are a kook. (Although I have been known to drive to the grocery store and buy Kenny’s Key Lime Pie at 10:0PM) Do not judge. There are just a few more: Rum-Raisin, as featured in the photograph above, can be something you love, but don’t eat very often. However, if it’s your favorite pie, get ready. You’ve got a problem. You light candles instead of using electric lights. And… no offense, (I am guilty here too) you are probably into the occult. And you like taxidermy as decor. You may even have a room full of dolls. Whipped cream on top of any pie tones down the characteristics. Pecan Pie means you are nutty. I guess loving a nut pie would be emblematic of nuttiness. But seriously, in Pie o logy, if your favorite pie is Pecan, you are on the off-beat side. My personal favorite is Blackberry Cobbler. He says that if you like this pie, you are wild. Blackberries indicate this. The crustiness of cobbler hints at being conservative, possessing humanity, and being centered or grounded. Lots of sugar forming a glaze on top means that you are sweet, but with resistance. My husband’s favorite is Strawberry Rhubarb: Meaning, if you like this, you are clever, brilliant and an off-the-wall radical! You might have a gun under your bed. You may be a Libertarian. I really don’t want to know this about him. We do not have a gun under our bed. Does this make me doubt the science of Pie o logy? You decide. copyright 2014 Hollis Hildebrand-Mills All rights reserved. copyright 2014 “Pie o logy” Douglas C. Mills All reserved.
What are you if you don’t like pie, Hollis? Wait, don’t answer that! 🙂 I enjoyed your husband’s assessment.

I like that your husband has put a lot of thought into this, Hollis! I am one who loves pecan pie and apple streusel pie warmed up with ice cream in the Fall and Winter. I love strawberry pie and lemon meringue, (and Key Lime pie) only in the summer time. I want to know if my interests in certain pies determined by season, make me wild (like you) or nutty (like the pecan) or just wacky? Smiles!

So funny, this. I’m not a pie fan, actually – only savoury – my Mum’s steak and kidney would be my favourite. I wonder what your husband would make of this? I stick to just fruit – or at a push – chocolate mousse for puddingy things.

Hey, Jenny! Thanks for joining in this pie o logy stuff! (And knowing your keen sense of humor, to think it is funny, is a compliment) My husband says, that in the discussion of dessert pies, to pick steak and kidney, means you step outside the norm a bit. And to like this pie, you are adventurous, fierce, but grounded. A person who is very strong, (take no prisoners) and very independent! He says the chocolate mousse thing, although he only does pies, means that you are a clever optimist and a deep, sweet, private person.
I have to say here, all my references in this blog were American: Matt Lauer, etc. But if Prince Charles were to have a favorite pie, it would be black currant, Hubby says.

Based on their favorite pies. And like you said, it is perfect because that is the time of year pie is most likely to be on a person’s mind! Let’s just not ask him now. Heh heh! No, Kourtney, (following notes again)… cherry pie, as you know, has the “I like NPR” profile, but being that it is cherry cobbler that you like, although you are still progressive, you are more sensible. Not as abstract. You are more down to earth. And if you put ice cream on top, you are even less liberal than if there was no ice cream. But keep in mind, my husband is a pie o logist, not a cobbler o logist!!!!! 🙂

Hi Marie! Well, you know, liking Key Lime and Pecan are signs of being a little unusual. Off beat: Pecan and Kookiness: Key Lime. But if your all time favorite is Pumpkin, you are not exactly how you appear to others. You appear to be “old-fashioned”, but are actually quite adventurous. The fact that you state without a doubt that you do not like whipped cream on your Pumpkin Pie means that all the regular characteristics of Pumpkin Pie apply, but are not muffled as whipped or ice cream put on pie tends to do. You are intensely observant, intensely regimented, intensely appearing to be one way, but almost leading a double life in reality.Let me know if Hubby can be of more assistance! 🙂

I’m afraid I have to throw a wrench into the mix: My favorite pie is Shoo-fly Pie, which is a Pennsylvania Dutch concoction made from molasses and brown sugar. Eric, you are secretly old-fashioned. Almost to the point of being stubborn. Kind of like Uncle Joe on “Petticoat Junction” (TV Show), but there is a deep sweetness in your character. Hollis, this post had me laughing and laughing! I love, love, love, love cheesecake. Not the freezer aisle stuff, the $12 a slice, melt in your mouth kind of stuff. I’d be curious about the “Pie-o-logy” interpretation of a cheesecake lover (which perhaps would be outside the realm of pie but…)!
LikeLike
Okay, Eli, I had to catch my husband at a good time. Hahaha! He, said “three things come to mind: Sweet, Dense, Raconteur. Slow, like, ‘Does she really like me?’ (After she has made you a cheesecake….She likes you, Eli!) Cool exterior. Hidden big heart.” He said if there is fruit on it, things are changed. Like look up cherry pie, for instance. (Hubby says, “You know where that’s going!”) If cherries are on a piece of cheesecake that cost $12.00 a slice, then you add liberal to that. (politically and culturally!) If it is pineapple cheesecake, add a monocle to the person eating it in a low lit restaurant.
He adds a disclaimer here: He is a “Pie o logist.” So he may not be right with this. Cheesecake is not a pie. But, as you can see, he is more than glad to help out. In fact we laugh about it!
If you need further assistance, like with the girl who is making you the cheesecake and you are not sure if she likes you or not, the “Pie o logist” will help out!

Hollis I’m at home in my office space laughing so hard! This is fantastic and frighteningly accurate! I like his interpretation and believe he might not just be a “Pie-o-logist” perhaps he should expand his practice into “dessert-o-logy.” The insight about adding fruit to cheesecake is hysterical and I am tracking with him on the cherry pie reference! This is classic, I may need to come back for another slice! 🙂

Byron, I am so glad you introduced blueberry into the assortment of pies here. No one has yet to ask the Pie o logist for that analysis.
You are easy going. Might be mistaken for a conservative, but you have a secret life. Your secret life is rich and, in fact, you kind of gorge on it. (as it were) There is a reason why blueberry pie is the pie of choice in Pie Eating Contests. Nobody knows how these regular looking people can sit down to a table of pies and stuff themselves until they are sick.
Therefore you are HUNGRY for all that the world has to offer, taking in pieces at a time. And you can never be quite full.

Last time we did this, you were a Chocolate Pie girl! I just called my husband and we went through the Key Lime Pie personality. He said you are quick tongued and quick witted. Grounded. You think things through and go deeper than most people. You may be slow to make a decision, but once you do, you commit to your choice entirely. If you can compare your personality (choice of pie) to a singing voice, it would be John Lennon’s, as opposed to the Lemon Meringue personality, having the voice of Paul McCartney. (not as zesty) Another way Doug looked at it, was, Key Lime is like Oscar Wilde where Lemon Meringue is like Don Rickles. (If that makes sense….I am having trouble with some of his tangents) I hope that helps. I miss your wigs and photographs!

Luanne, let’s leave the cherry out of this for now. First of all. thanks for contributing! OK, you mention Pumpkin Pie first, which characterizes observation, insightfulness, possibly appearing a tad old-fashioned, but masking an inner life of a devilish quality. But when you drag Pecan Pie into the mix. (on the same plate), it gets very interesting.
The spices in the Pumpkin meet the eccentricity of the Pecan and it creates a kind of kaleidoscopic secret life, revealed in bursts. (your poetry?)

Well, I guess I am a complete eccentric, & if I want it, I have to make it myself! Surprised too that it has been excluded, since you live in Georgia. It is a foreign dish here in Maine. My all time favorite is PEACH PIE, warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. That’s why I planted a peach tree in my yard……………. And BTW, ask the pie o logist, what about people who like custard pie? I don’t; it is too bland, but it is a favorite up here…………I give you a whole group to analyze………………….

Pat! Thank you for contributing to this! I did ask the Pie o logist about peach pie, but forgot to ask about Maine’s favorite: custard. I will ask him about that one tonight. Okay here goes about peach: A Peach Pie person is deceptively radical. More radical than a Cherry Pie person (look up cherry pie, NPR, democrat, but not too progressive..think they are…etc. I think it is in the body of the blog.) This Peach Pie person is more radical than the Cherry Pie person because of the size of the pits. The peach has bigger pits. (Now I realize the pits do not go into the pie, but this is what Hubby said.) This person (you) has loving and humane characteristics, such as taking in stray cats, that kind of thing. You are a direct person, a sweet person with a tendency toward pessimism (although I told Doug pessimism does not fit you, he would not budge.) Okay this is where it gets weird: (but true, in your case) He said the fact that you like warm. peach pie, usually ice cream softens the characteristics of any pie. Tones them down even. In the case of peach pie being served warm to hot, the radicalism burns away the ice cream, making the radicalism predominant. Even more predominant than the humane qualities you possess. And he does not even know you!!!!!!!
