“Afloat.” Ceres Gallery. New York. Solo show.
When I worked on these collages, I would schedule myself to do three a day. I never worked on them all together. Nor did I go back and “fix” one after I had declared it finished. I would slowly proceed on one collage at a time. The deadline was about three a day.
But this one presented all kinds of problems. This one, I struggled with for days. I couldn’t get the “balance” right. Let’s just leave it at that. I look at it now and I am happy with it. Hard won.
It’s lovely. Maybe even more satisfying for you if it caused some consternation?

Yes, Jenny, I think you might be right. I got so involved that I put blood, sweat and tears into it and it paid off!

So much to see in such a small picture! Did you name each piece or just as one?

I never named them, but thanks for asking! Because they really weren’t meant to be seen individually but as part of a group. With the fabric rings.
I am numbering them now based on how Tom Meyer photographed them and how I stored them in the computer. It was easier before not to number them; it would force me to be so conscious of ordering them each time I moved them. ( Framer, photographer, gallery… the worst) But you give me reason to think, because I am showing them individually now, I should name them. Thanks, Marjie Berman, as always, for your comment.

The way you framed this piece and suspended in that white box frame really adds almost a third dimensionality to it – really shows off the beautiful orange-red colors of the collage.
